Picking up where we left off, we follow Rafe and Lyana as they try to navigate on their own in the world under the mist. Bring everything they have ever known into question, this grey world is filled to the brim with mystery, secrets and suspicion. Lyana, the Queen promised, has a tough choice to make. Rafe, the fire-cursed warrior, has to find a new normal

We get to see more of Xander and Cassi in this book. And the growth of these two characters are phenomenal. I loved getting a glimpse of what is happening in Cassi’s head. Her turmoil is written so intensely I felt every emotion Cassi felt, every doubt, every resentment.
The world building is amazing. Creating not only one world setting but two in a series is a crazy goal. But Kaitlyn Davis does not scare easily, and she has knocked it out of the park! Wow, just wow! The eerie atmosphere from the grey mist world lands in stark contrast with the open air, clear skies of the floating Islands. Add to that those intense natural elements with vivid descriptions and you will be jumping into this world with both feet.

The narrative alternates between four characters. Which normally would get on my nerves at a certain point. I tend to have favourites, in whose stories I am way more invested. But with this series I felt like I needed to know everything. When I was reading about the one character, I needed a glimpse of the other. The story flows naturally and without any snags. I blazed through this book in less than two days.
If you loved the Raven and the Dove, you will live for the Hunter and the Mage. This series has been one of my favourites of this year.

Return to the world of The Raven and the Dove, where winged people rule the skies, a lost kingdom lives at sea, and two star-crossed lovers hold the fate of each in their palms.
A mage written in prophecy…
When Lyana wakes in the Sea of Mist, adventure is the first thing on her mind. But between her unruly new magic and an unyielding young king, the world below comes with more responsibility than she ever dreamed. An entire civilization exists within the fog, and its survival depends entirely on her.
A hunter forged in blood…
Adrift at sea on a ship full of strangers, Rafe fights to cope with his new reality. He’ll do anything to return to the sky and the people he left behind. When a surprising offer comes his way, he instantly accepts, sparing no time to consider the consequences.
Loyalties are tested and an ancient war begins anew…
With rebellion in her heart, Cassi defies her king and befriends the prince she’s been ordered to kill. Oblivious to the threat, Xander welcomes her into his inner circle, determined to rescue his mate. As one works to help and the other to hinder, an ancient enemy stirs, forcing Cassi to choose between trusting the man who broke her heart and turning her back on everything she’s ever known.
