“You can’t win a war. Someone else just loses.”

I have a heart for every year I’ve been alive. There are seventeen hidden in the sand of my bedroom. Every so often, I claw through the shingle just to check they’re still there. Buried deep and bloody. Princess Lira is siren royalty and revered across the sea until she is cursed into humanity by ruthless Sea Queen. Now Lira must deliver the heart of the infamous siren killer or remain a human forever. Prince Elian is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world, and captain to a deadly crew of siren hunters. When he rescues a drowning woman from the ocean, she promises to help him destroy siren kind for good. But he has no way of knowing whether he can trust her…

This book has been on my list for quite some time, so I was ecstatic when I found this copy nicely tucked away in a tiny bookstore. I dove into it straight away.

This amazing retelling of the Little Mermaid has everything you want in an epic novel – Love, lies, betrayal, pending war that makes for an epic journey to finding a peace between two rivalling races. And I am happy to say unlike so many Young Adult novels available these days, this one is completely appropriate. One romantic kissing scene and the rest is focused on the adventure.

This easy read is so amazing I could not put it down. But I am partial to retellings and mermaids so pick up the book and decide for yourself. The Narrative is easy to follow, the world building is spot on and the multiple point of views executed perfectly.

“In my heart, I’m as wild as the ocean that raised me.”

I cannot wait to see what is next for this author.

These star-crossed lovers defeat the odds and find a happily ever after. Written in such a way, I wished I was a siren. I absolutely adored this book.

“They celebrate love as though it’s power, even though it has killed far more humans than I ever have.”
