Join in the Magic of Caraval

Upon my return from the journey to Caraval I found myself missing the excitement of the game. In all honesty I think anyone who reads this will agree that this will be an epic place if it were truly real. I honestly would like to thank the Author for this amazing journey. And I’m begging you, PLEASE TAKE ME BACK!

To prevent spoilers I have included the summaries as they appear on the back covers of the UK edition, along with my honest review of each book. I can therefore not spoil it anymore for you than the actual book would.

Please pick up copies of this series. It is definitely all it promises to be.

Welcome to Caraval, where nothing is quite what it seems.

Caraval (Book 1) by Stephanie Garber

Scarlett and Tella have never left the tiny isle of Trisda, pining from afar for the wonder of Caraval, a once a-year week-long performance where the audience participates in the show.

Caraval is magic, mystery, adventure.

When the sisters’ long waited invitations finally arrive, it seems their dreams have come true. But no sooner have they arrived than Tella vanishes, kidnapped by the show’s mastermind organiser, Legend.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is an elaborate performance. But she quickly becomes entangled in a dangerous game of love, magic and heartbreak.

And real or not, she must find Tella before the game is over or her sister disappears forever.

The brilliant first book in this amazing series by Stephanie Garber, follows the story of two sisters in search of adventure and freedom. This love conquers all story has everything you need in order to be swept up by the magic of Caraval.

“Welcome, welcome to Caraval! The grandest show on land or by sea. Inside you’ll experience more wonders than most people see in a lifetime. You can sip magic from a cup and buy dreams in a bottle. But before you fully enter into our world, you must remember it’s all a game.”

Stephanie Garber, Caraval

This novel will have you judging and misjudging and questioning your own existence in attempt to try and distinguish truth from lies. I highly recommend you give in to this magic and get swept up for the Isle of Legend is a wonderful place and you will find yourself reluctant to leave.

Follow Scarlett as she attempts to find herself, her love and her sister in this whirlwind adventure. She her transform and grow. She might annoy you at first but I promise she is a blast once you get to know her.

Welcome, Welcome to Caraval… The Games have only just begun

Legendary (Book 2) By Stephanie Garber

After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The sisters should be celebrating. But Tella isn’t free yet. She’s made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal , and what she owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning and sacrifice. But now the game is asking more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she will lose everything she cares about – maybe even her life.

But if she wins Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.

“Every good story needs a villain.

But the best villains are the ones you secretly like.”

Stephanie Garber, Legendary

In a battle between Fate and Magic, which side would you choose? As Tella continuously finds herself at a crossroads, she has to make life changing decisions. Who can she truly trust? Who is who they claim to be?

The second novel in this powerful series has all the suspense you came to love in Caraval, with plot twists that will leave you wishing to return to the Isle of Legend, to an easier game. Valenda as a city is as amazing, if not more, as the Isle. But looks can be misleading. Tella soon realises that this time it’s different. And as she falls in love, she hopes with everything inside her, that this is not the biggest mistake of her life.

Beware of the ending. I don’t think you are going to like it.

“Not everyone gets a true ending. There are two types of endings because most people give up at the part of the story where things are the worst, where the situation feels hopeless. But that’s when hope is needed most. only those who persevere can find their true ending.”

Stephanie Garber, Legendary

Welcome, Welcome to Finale. All games must come to and end…

Finale (Book 3) by Stephanie Garber.

It’s been since the Fates were freed from a deck of destiny, two months since Legend claimed the throne for his own, and two months since Tella discovered the boy she fell in love with doesn’t really exist.

With lives, empires and hearts hanging in the balance, Tella must decide if she is going to trust Legend – or a former enemy. After uncovering a secret that upends her life, Scarlett will need to do the impossible. And Legend has a choice to make that will forever change and define him.

Caraval is over; put perhaps the greatest game of all has begun. There is no spectators this time. Only those who win, and those who will lose everything.

Fear was a poison that people mistook as protection. Making choices to stay safe could be just as treacherous.”

Stephanie Garber, Finale

This was perhaps the most difficult book I have ever read. I have never before wanted to postpone an ending as much as I have with this one. I was not ready to leave this world. And I will definitely be returning to it soon. But this book is all it promised to be.

Writing from multiple POV’s is not an easy task. Imagine yourself have to be two different people at once. But Stephanie Garber has outdone herself. Not only is this book easy to follow, I found myself warring between which sister I wanted to read more about.

The secrets and suspense in this book had me hooked from page 1. I was seriously depressed at the end of Legendary and the feelings that I harboured for those characters (they definitely know who they are.) were reawakened in this book. But her quote stands true. The best villians are the ones we secretly like. The world as the Dragna sisters knew it has changed and in this book follows the journey of how they are trying to make sense of everything. All the characters you loved and loved to hate reappear in this book in one way or another. Get ready for a whirlwind of emotions. I was reaching for tissues on a quite a few places.

Being whisked away to this world has been an absolute pleasure, But be warned the Book Hangovers are epic. Have your recovery kit ready. You’ll need it.

The alternative covers for this series is just as amazing. And one day when I grow up I hope to own a copy of each.

I truly encourage people of all ages to read this. There are no inappropriate scenes in this book – some tend to lean that way but nothing actually happens. There are a few make out scenes, but nothing overly descriptive or inappropriate. The descriptions of death scenes can be a trigger if you have a violent past and if you have experience with kidnappings steer clear. But other than that this magical world was such an amazing experience I can’t wait to go back.
